The Adventure “Mountain” That Brings Year-Round Climbing Joy
The tower is inspired by Store Skagastølstind, one of Norway’s most iconic peaks. This unique structure is designed for indoor climbing facilities that want to offer something truly different. Storen invites to indoor via ferrata – exploration, play, and climbing excitement for all ages.
Its design delivers a sense of achievement, an adrenaline rush, and the atmosphere of real mountain climbing – right in the middle of the climbing hall. The routes resemble an indoor via ferrata and are suitable for both beginners and experienced climbers. You’ll get that hanging-on-the-wall feeling – without having to travel to the Alps.
Storen’s climbing routes are directly inspired by the popular courses found in Høyt & Lavt adventure parks across Norway. The same types of elements, balance challenges, and climbing thrills have been brought indoors – adapted for year-round use and new user groups.
This provides visitors with the authentic Høyt & Lavt feeling, no matter the weather or season.
“Storen allows us to offer climbing fun in a way that engages kids, teens, and adults alike. It adds variety and activity that’s incredibly valuable for us and our guests,” says Egil Hansen, operations manager at Høyt Under Taket Skien.
Right in the heart of Høyt Under Taket in Skien stands Storen – an impressive solid wood structure and visual centerpiece. Storen is developed and delivered by Høyt & Lavt Adventure Concepts. It combines the thrill of climbing with quality craftsmanship and durable materials.
The climbing center surrounding Storen is located on Klosterøya and was designed by the award-winning architecture firm Snøhetta. Their design gives the tower a spectacular setting. Both Storen and the surrounding building are made entirely of solid wood – making this possibly the world’s greenest climbing center.
Together, the structure and building create a stunning whole that delivers unforgettable experiences.
“Having climbing routes similar to those in Høyt & Lavt parks creates a clear connection in the experience – and many guests recognize the elements and feel more confident to push their limits,” says Hansen.
Storen is more than just an attraction. It’s a powerful tool for recruiting new climbers. Its accessible and playful design lowers the threshold for trying out climbing.
This is especially important for those who find ropes, harnesses, and heights intimidating at first. Here, people can experience mastery and excitement in a safe environment – while sparking a desire for more.
For climbing centers, this means more first-time users, increased visitor numbers, and a natural entry point into the sport – all year round.
